Scientific name: apuleia leiocarp
Brazilian name: garapa
Goldenwood, or Garapa, is one of the more dense exotic hardwoods available on the market, and is usually used in decking for this reason. It measures 1700 on Janka Hardness Scale, which is about 25% harder than Red Oak. Its heartwood ranges from illustrious golden honey and beige tones with hints of darker tan and reddish tinting; while its sapwood is slightly varied, with a cream to yellowish hue. As the wood naturally weathers, it takes on light silvery gray tones unless a sealer is used to keep its natural color.
Goldenwood appears straight with fine interlocked grain with a medium luster. Its texture is fine to medium, and naturally scratch resistant. In addition, Goldenwood is extremely dense and innately greatly resistant to rot, decay, and insect attack, splinters, scratches, and even fire. This allows for the surface to maintain a remarkable smoothness and appearance for many numerous years!
