Scientific Name: Hymenaea Courbaril
Brazilian Name: Jatoba
Jatoba, or Brazilian Cherry, is the most popular exotic hardwood flooring imported from Brazil to the United States. With a hardness of 2350 on the Janka Scale, Brazilian Cherry is almost twice as hard as Red Oak. The heartwood varies from tan or reddish salmon to auburn; and is frequently marked by golden to dark streaking, which gives it an exotic expression. Its thick sapwood is white slightly yellowed, grey, or pinkish and clearly distinguished from the heartwood. While originally lighter, its color changes... It darkens to stunning russet and deep sienna as it ages.
Its interlocking grain is extremely dense and robust; characteristics that ensure your floor will stay beautiful for a long time. Its impressive resilience and lofty mechanical properties make Brazilian Cherry well suited for a wide variety of uses such as wooden planks, beams, flooring boards, door frames; and in external engineering such as sleepers and double tee junctions. With its excessive allure and versatility, it is easy to see why Brazilian Cherry is amongst the most stylish and admired hardwoods; and why it is so frequently sought after in both commercial and residential markets.
