Fine Brazilian Hardwood

Scientific Name: Tabebuia Serratifolia
Brazilian Name: Muiracatiara

Muiracatiara, or Brazilian Tigerwood, is one of the most fantastic and unique exotic hardwoods available on the market. It is not only stunning in appearance, but also remarkably durable - with a hardness of 1850 on the Janka Scale. Its hardwood varies from light pinkish to orangey-brown, with “tiger-like” irregular black stripes or streaking. The striping or streaking, (hence its name) is most prominent - with its thickness varying from fine to thick brush-like strokes. Its sapwood is quite distinct, appearing grayish to brownish-white. This exceptional feature makes this exotic hardwood particularly attractive and desired. Sun exposure can cause significant darkening of the background under the stripes progressing to a deep reddish brown color; in turn, making the striping less opposing and more subtle.

The grain can be slightly wavy or interlocked and the texture is medium to fine. Increasing its value is the fact that it can come in large sizes and is easy to shape with tools. Brazilian Tigerwood is immensely resistant to insects, rot, decay, and termites; allowing for multiple uses both in and outside residential and commercial areas.
